THE BLUE DOOR Oil on board, 12 x 17 inches One of my favourite Newbury paintings, not least for the old saddling boxes which were unfortunately damaged in a fire not long after the original photographs that this painting is based upon were taken. I like to watch the horses being washed down after the race.  This one has been hosed (the ground is still wet) and brushed and is about to be taken back home to the stables by his groom after the day's work.  I'm sure they must both be looking forward to their supper!
