The greatest sire of the last decade, Sadler's Wells was unfortunate enough to be born in the same
year as two other top-class sons of Nothern Dancer - namely El Gran Senor and Secreto, the former a
champion 2yo and winner of the 2000 Guineas and Irish Derby and the latter his controversial conqueror
in the Epsom Derby. Sadler's Wells was no slouch either. He won the Gr.1 Irish 2000 Guineas as well as the
Gr.1 Eclipse Stakes and the inaugural Gr.1 Irish Champion Stakes as well as finishing a gallant second to
former Derby winner Teenoso in the Gr.1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes at
Royal Ascot, but it is as a sire that he has excelled, totally eclipsing his two half-brothers.
Sadler's Well's is a modern day phenomenon. He has been Champion Sire on 13 occasions since he
retired in 1985 and has consistently produced champion after champion beginning with the great
Salsabil back in 1990 who not only won the Gr.1 1000Guineas and Epsom Oaks but trounced the colts in
the Irish Derby.
